Race and religion are two main motivators for hate crimes due to stereotypes, racial bias and systemic discrimination. Some statistics at a glance show us: 💢 In BC, hate crimes based on race or ethnicity rose 116% (2019–2023) 💢 In BC, hate crimes based on religion rose by 202% (2019–2023) 💢 37% of police-reported hate crimes motivated by race/ethnicity were reported by Black persons (2023) 💢 80% increase in the number of police-reported crimes that were motived by race or ethnicity in Canada (2019–2020) 💢 Muslim individuals saw an increase of targeted hate crimes by 94% (2022–2023) 💢 Jewish individuals saw an increase of targeted hate crimes by 71% (2022–2023) 💢 Sikh, Hindu and Buddhist individuals saw an increase of targeted hate crimes by 37% (2022–2023) Are you wanting to support your community and encourage safety? Hate is on the rise in Canada with a steady increase of hate crimes since 2019.
