Today, December 26 until January 1, African communities in the United States, Canada and other countries celebrate Kwanzaa, a time to honour pan-African heritage and culture.![]()

The name Kwanzaa comes from a Swahili phrase, “matunda ya kwanza,” meaning "first fruits.” Each day, a candle is lit, symbolizing one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa, including unity, purpose and collective responsibility. ![]()

As we reflect on these principles, let’s carry the spirit of Kwanzaa into the new year and beyond, celebrating and uplifting the Black community in meaningful ways. ![]()
