Last week around 75 seniors from our Therapeutic Activation Program for Seniors (TAPS) felt the holiday spirit — albeit it a bit cold — on a special field trip to go on the Bear Creek Christmas Train! ![]()

The seniors laughed, crafted fun hats, took photos with Santa and filled the air with Christmas carols — their favourite was We Wish You a Merry Christmas! ![]()

With the start of the winter season this December 21, most of us are likely not thinking about gardening. For us at DIVERSEcity, we’ve been winterizing our two Community Gardens in Surrey, BC, and are anxiously waiting for spring to start planting again, thanks to a renewed grant from TD Friends of the Environment Foundation for 2025. ![]()

“There are many benefits to community gardens including more access to fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs, improving food security in urban communities. Maintaining a garden plot is also great physical activity,” says Abby Mann, manager of the program. “Gardens are also a place of connection and community building, bringing together diverse people to nurture a better future together.” ![]()

In response to escalating instances of racism across BC, DIVERSEcity is one of several community organizations called upon by the United Way BC - Lower Mainland Region to bolster local responses and anti-racism efforts that provide support to people who have experienced hate and racism. ![]()

“With the support of [this grant], our goal is to bring people and communities together against hate,” says Lenya Wilks, Director, Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement, DIVERSEcity. ![]()

“One of our strategic priorities as an organization is to strengthen community connection, especially by creating spaces for dialogue where every voice can be heard. Our new Together Against Hate project will offer these spaces — both in person and online — for information sharing and advocacy against racism and hate.” ![]()

Starting in early 2025 until March 21, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we will be hosting several “Together Against Hate” workshops that bring diverse community members, partners and Indigenous communities together to foster honest conversations on racism and hate, cultural exchange, resilience-building and finding new ways forward, together. ![]()
