Meheret Bisrat is a dedicated advocate for equitable communities, boasting more than 13 years of unwavering commitment to serving at DIVERSEcity. Her journey with the organization began as a passionate volunteer, igniting her lifelong dedication to supporting newcomer immigrants and refugees on their journey to integration and inclusion within Canada.
Throughout her tenure, Meheret has held pivotal roles within DIVERSEcity, in both frontline and management, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse needs and challenges faced by newcomers. As the former Senior Manager, Community Development, she led exceptional teams and oversaw vital programs such as BCSIS, Settlement, RISE, Volunteer Program and Seniors Services. Her leadership is characterized by empathy, compassion, respect, and genuine connection.
Meheret’s impact at DIVERSEcity extends beyond program management; she has managed a diverse funding portfolio and spearheaded initiatives that have made a tangible difference in the lives of immigrants and refugees. Her commitment to justice, equity and inclusion has defined her journey, as she has tirelessly worked on advancing systems change and centering the voices of marginalized communities. From managing complex contracts to developing innovative programs, Meheret consistently leverages her strategic acumen and collaborative approach to drive transformative impact.
In her new role as Director of Settlement, Meheret is poised to continue her mission of effecting positive change and catalyzing meaningful impact. She remains committed to leveraging her expertise to spearhead DIVERSEcity’s community development and settlement service areas toward its objectives, furthering the organization’s mission of bridging communities and advocating for inclusivity. She will oversee federally funded settlement programs including RISE, provincially funded BCNSP, BC SAF HAVN and Together Now, as well as United Way BC-funded Seniors Services.
Beyond her professional endeavours, Meheret enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, being in nature and engaging in volunteerism within her community. She is deeply honoured by the opportunity to serve and looks forward to embarking on an enduring journey of impact and advocacy.
