DIVERSEcity celebrated as two of their senior volunteers each took home an Inspiring Seniors Award sponsored by Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
This special award recognizes diverse seniors who are making an impact in the community for other seniors or community members through their volunteerism, mentorship or caregiving.
At DIVERSEcity, we have a robust Volunteer Program made up of generous individuals of all ages who help us provide vital services to our communities. Two of those volunteers were honoured at our 2024 DIVERSEcity Awards of Impact — Peter Li and Kusum Kundiwal.
These two exceptional recipients do so much for our DIVERSEcity community, specifically our Community Kitchen program. They both volunteer their time weekly to help out with our program. We are so grateful for their dedication, warmth and excellent cooking skills!
Smiling wide throughout his speech, Peter beamed as he reflected on his volunteering. “I like volunteer work … I can make friends. I learn a lot of cool knowledge. I like volunteering and will continue to do it,” Peter said, ending his speech to applause.
It was apparent that both seniors have a bond of friendship. They smiled and congratulated each other. Keeping it short and simple, Kusum shared, “I am so happy for this. Thank you.”
We are honoured to have incredible volunteers like Peter and Kusum who give the gift of their time, knowledge and care to their community.
Thank you to the award sponsor, KPU and to Dr. Asma Sayed, Professor and Vice President of Equity and Inclusive Communities at KPU for presenting the award.
